Photo & Media Use Policy

Core Consent Language

Blackboots is a nonprofit community organization that documents its activities for historical record, community storytelling, education, and organizational communication through photography, video, audio, and related media.

By granting permission under a Blackboots media release or by participating in activities where photography or recording is disclosed, the participant acknowledges and agrees to the following terms:

1. Permission to Capture Media

Blackboots and its authorized employees, volunteers, contractors, and representatives may photograph, film, audiotape, or otherwise record participants during events, programs, and organizational activities.

2. Use of Media

Images, recordings, or excerpts thereof may be used by Blackboots for lawful organizational purposes including, but not limited to, organizational communications, educational materials, historical archives, printed materials, websites, newsletters, and official social media accounts.

3. Ownership of Media

All photographs, video recordings, audio recordings, and other media captured by Blackboots or its authorized representatives remain the property of Blackboots unless otherwise agreed in writing.

4. Editing and Adaptation

Blackboots may edit, crop, format, or otherwise adapt media for design, clarity, accessibility, or publication purposes, provided such use is not misleading or materially disrespectful to the subject.

5. Compensation

Participation in photography, video, or audio recording does not create any right to payment, royalties, or other compensation.

6. Privacy Commitment

Blackboots values the privacy and trust of its community. Media collected by Blackboots will not be sold, licensed, or transferred to outside commercial entities for their independent marketing or advertising use. Blackboots may publish media through its own official communication channels, including third-party platforms used to distribute Blackboots content. Blackboots does not provide its media library to third-party marketing databases or advertising networks.

7. Respectful Use

Blackboots will make reasonable efforts to use media in a manner that respects the dignity, identity, and context of the individuals depicted and is consistent with the organization’s values and community standards.

8. Duration of Permission

Unless otherwise stated in writing, permission granted under a Blackboots media release remains in effect for media already captured and may apply to future organizational use of that media.

9. Questions or Concerns

Participants with questions or concerns regarding the use of their image may contact Blackboots through its official communication channels. Blackboots will make reasonable efforts to review and address requests concerning future use of media but cannot guarantee removal from materials already printed, published, distributed, or archived.
